What is the Status of Pennsylvania Unemployment Hearings?

As of March 23, 2020 the Unemployment Compensation Referees’ Offices have continued hearings already scheduled for Carlisle, Harrisburg, York and Lancaster.  Those hearings that will be rescheduled as well as new hearings will be scheduled to take place as telephone hearings.  Claimants who receive a notice of telephone hearing should be aware that there are special regulations for telephone hearings that require any exhibits to be used during the hearing be submitted 5 business days before the hearing.  Also, it is the Claimant’s responsibility to make sure that they provide a good phone number where they can be contacted.  That phone number should be listed on the Notice of Hearing.  If the phone number is not listed on the Notice of Hearing the Referee may not call the Claimant and instead may make a decision based solely on the employer’s testimony or the records in the hearing file.  In addition, most Claimants have only a cell phone number.  Many times Claimants will block unknown numbers.  Claimants must make sure that they have any blocks on their phones removed so that the Referee can contact them.  Also, if a Claimant has not received a call at the time indicated they should contact the Referee’s office to double check to make sure they are not missing the call.
